German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich face off in the 2021 DFL-Supercup on Tuesday in what could be a highly entertaining affair at the Signal Iduna Park.

The first trophy of the 2021/22 season will be up for grabs on Tuesday, as Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich battle it out in the 2021 DFL-Supercup. The DFL-Supercup is traditionally the curtain-raising fixture for the new season in German football. And while the result will not be of significant importance to either team, the game could give us a glimpse of where the two title rivals stand at the moment.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund began their Bundesliga campaign with an impressive 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The Black and Yellows played some devastating attacking football, and showed that they mean business in this season’s title race. A win against Bayern Munich on Tuesday would be another statement of intent even this early in the season.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich could only manage a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach in their Bundesliga opener. The defending champions looked far from their usual ruthless selves in that game. But they have immense quality in their squad, and have won each of their last five games against Borussia Dortmund.

New Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann does not have the best of records against Borussia Dortmund, though. And he will want to change that starting with a win on Tuesday.
