Borussia Dortmund 5-2 Eintracht Frankfurt: Key Talking Points
Final thoughts and looking ahead
The Bundesliga season has started off with a bang for Borussia Dortmund, just as we’d hoped. Their performance is one that breeds confidence and underlines a certain hunger that the squad has seemingly retained from last season’s final push that saw them finish in the Champions League spots and win the DFB-Pokal title. Marco Rose and his side look primed and ready for the challenges ahead.
That being said, this Borussia Dortmund side is still far from the image of perfection, particularly in the defence. With injuries absolutely depleting their defensive ranks, the likes of Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji and Nico Schulz have done admirably to try and cover for the absences of the first choice players.
That being said, it is also visible that Dortmund really do need to dip into the transfer market and help provide slightly more cover in positions where reliable performers are more scarce. I hesitate to criticise Passlack too much however as he does still make a solid and energetic squad player, but having only Thomas Meunier as a starting option at right back for example doesn’t fully set me at ease.
I do believe that Borussia Dortmund are well on their path to forming a side that can challenge for silverware this season. We say this every year, that this may be Dortmund’s year, but under Marco Rose, the horizon just looks a bit brighter than it has in years at the Westfalenstadion.
