Jude Bellingham: “We are disappointed and have to bounce back next week”
Jude Bellingham says that Borussia Dortmund must bounce back next week following Saturday’s shock defeat to SC Freiburg.
Borussia Dortmund’s disappointing week continued on Saturday, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to SC Freiburg. Jude Bellingham, who made his 50th appearance for the Black and Yellows in the game against Freiburg, was the team’s best player on the pitch and came close to scoring twice.
Bellingham forced a save from the Freiburg goalkeeper and also hit the post in the first half. He then forced an own goal that helped Borussia Dortmund halve the deficit in the second half. While BVB weren’t able to find an equaliser, the 18 year old’s performance was certainly an impressive one.
Bellingham admitted after the game that the Borussia Dortmund players are still getting used to the style of play adopted by new head coach Marco Rose. He added that after the disappointing result against Freiburg, they now have to bounce back next week.
"“It’s only the second game, we are still getting used to the style of play, we have a couple of new players,” Bellingham said. “I think we played some good stuff at times, even though we didn’t get the result. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean everything. But we are so disappointed and we will have to bounce back next week.”"
Donyell Malen: “To play here is a nice feeling”
New signing Donyell Malen also spoke after the game and said that despite the disappointing result, it was a nice feeling for him to make his first ever start for Borussia Dortmund.
"“It is a good feeling but overall we are disappointed that we lost this game, of course. But to play here is a nice feeling.”"
Malen, who joined Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in the summer, struggled to make an impact on his full debut. But it is still early days in his BVB career. It can take some time for new signings to get settled in. And Malen will be looking to start once again on Friday, as Marco Rose’s side take on TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
