Thorgan Hazard not expected to return until after the international break
Borussia Dortmund’s injury woes have eased slightly in the last few days. But they will have to make do without Thorgan Hazard (and possibly Thomas Meunier) for Friday’s game against TSG Hoffenheim.
Thorgan Hazard suffered an ankle injury during Borussia Dortmund’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday one of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. The winger has already missed the last two games, and Ruhr Nachrichten report that he will not be available for Friday’s home game against TSG Hoffenheim either. He will only make his return to the squad after the international break.
Ruhr Nachrichten add that Friday’s game will also likely come too soon for Thomas Meunier. The right-back is back in training after recovering from COVID-19. But since he hasn’t been able to train much since Belgium’s exit from the European Championships, he needs more time to get back to full fitness.
Contrary to Ruhr Nachrichten’s report, Michael Zorc told Sport1 on Sunday that Meunier could be an option for Friday’s game. So it will be interesting to see if the Belgian international is able to play some part against Hoffenheim.
Ruhr Nachrichten add that the muscle injuries suffered by Nico Schulz and Gio Reyna on Saturday do not look to be serious. At the moment, it is uncertain whether Schulz will be able to play against Hoffenheim. But Reyna should be in the squad.
Mats Hummels, Raphael Guerreiro, Emre Can and Julian Brandt all made their returns to the team on Saturday. They will now look to use the next few days to work their way back to full fitness.
