Marcel Halstenberg is being heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. The chances of the transfer going through before next week’s deadline appear to be quite good.

Borussia Dortmund are looking to add some quality depth to their defence before the transfer window closes next week. RB Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg appears to be on top of the club’s wishlist.

Ruhr Nachrichten reported on Monday that Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the signing of Halstenberg. Now Kicker claim that an agreement between all sides by the beginning of next week is quite possible, but not fully certain. The magazine adds that the transfer also depends on whether the Black and Yellows can sell a player first.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke made it clear earlier this month that they will only make further new signings this summer if they can sell players from the current team first.

Thomas Delaney, Roman Bürki, Nico Schulz and Marius Wolf are the four players who could leave the club before the end of the month. Sevilla are in talks to sign Delaney, but it remains to be seen if any clubs are interested in signing the other three players.

The transfer fee for Halstenberg would be somewhere in the region of ten million euros. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the 29 year old is free to leave RB Leipzig this summer. And Borussia Dortmund would like to sign him to strengthen their defence. Halstenberg is capable of playing both at left-back and centre-back.
