Borussia Dortmund II’s 28 game unbeaten run came to an end on Wednesday evening, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to VfL Osnabrück.

Looking to build on their incredible start to the 3. Liga season, Borussia Dortmund II went up against VfL Osnabrück away from home on Wednesday evening. Osnabrück, who were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga last season, made an impressive start to the game and took the lead in the 14th minute through Marc Heider.

Borussia Dortmund II had a golden opportunity to equalise in the 40th minute when Richmond Tachie was fouled inside the box. Tobias Raschl stepped up to take the spot-kick, but Osnabrück goalkeeper Philipp Kühn made a good save to deny him.

Enrico Maaßen’s side finally managed to get their equaliser in the 53rd minute. Berkan Taz found the back of the net with the first real chance of the second half.

Borussia Dortmund II’s hopes of getting the three points suffered a huge blow in the 69th minute when Lennard Maloney was given a straight red card. And it did not take long after that for Osnabrück to restore their lead. Substitute Lukas Kunze made it 2-1 for the home side in the 74th minute. But the next twist of the game arrived just four minutes later, as Osnabrück’s Ulrich Taffertshofer was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

The young Black and Yellows have eight points after five games, with two wins, one defeat and two draws to their name.
