Marcel Halstenberg has been heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in recent months. But now it looks like they will not be signing him after all.

Multiple reports in Germany claimed earlier this week that Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the signing of Marcel Halstenberg. But now it appears that the transfer will not take place. According to WAZ, the defender will not be joining the Black and Yellows this month. Kicker also report that Halstenberg is not a target for BVB at the moment.

Halstenberg, who has less than one year left on his contract, is free to leave RB Leipzig this month for a transfer fee of around ten million euros. He has attracted the interest of Borussia Dortmund in recent months. But despite all the rumours, the move now appears to be off.

Borussia Dortmund would like to sign a new defender before the transfer window shuts next week. But they have always maintained that they will only make further new signings if players from the first-team can be sold. Thomas Delaney’s move to Sevilla gives the BVB bosses some funds to work with. And Michael Zorc will be busy trying to find a solution in the coming days.

Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro is also being linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. But he is in talks with SL Benfica. And it is unlikely that he will make the switch to Dortmund this month.
