UEFA Champions League draw: The teams Borussia Dortmund could face in the group stage

Borussia Dortmund will discover the teams they will face in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League on Thursday. 

The 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage gets underway in less than three weeks’ time, and the draw for the round will take place on Thursday (18:00 CET). The 32 teams who have qualified for the Champions League group stage will be drawn into eight groups of four. The teams are split into four pots, and every group will have one team from each pot. Borussia Dortmund will be drawn from pot two.

Pot one contains 2020/21 Champions League winners Chelsea, Europa League winners Villarreal, as well as Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern MunichInter Milan, LOSC Lille and Sporting CP. Teams in pot two include Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, FC BarcelonaJuventus, Paris St. Germain, Liverpool, Manchester United and Sevilla.

RB Leipzig, Atalanta BC, AFC Ajax, FC Porto, SL Benfica, RB Salzburg, Shakhtar Donetsk and Zenit St. Petersburg are the teams in pot three. While pot four includes VfL Wolfsburg, AC MilanClub Brugge, Dynamo Kyiv, BesiktasBSC Young Boys, Malmö FF and FC Sherrif Tiraspol.

Teams from the same nation cannot face each other in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, so Borussia Dortmund will not go up against Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig or VfL Wolfsburg at this stage of the tournament. The Champions League group stage draw always delivers some fascinating ties, and expect this year to be no different.

The 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage will get underway on September 14/15. UEFA will reveal the full fixture list after the conclusion of the draw.
