Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Mahmoud Dahoud have been named in the Germany squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Hansi Flick has named his first Germany squad since taking over as the national team’s head coach. Two Borussia Dortmund players have been included. Marco Reus and Mahmoud Dahoud have both been rewarded for their impressive starts to the season.
Reus returns to the Germany squad for the first time since October 2019. He decided to skip the European Championships earlier this summer to focus on recharging his batteries ahead of the new season. And after starting the season in top form, he is now back in the Germany fold. The Borussia Dortmund captain could earn his 45th cap for his country next month.
Mahmoud Dahoud is also back in the Germany squad following his impressive performances over the last few months. The 25 year old, who has made two appearances for the national team so far, has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s most consistent performers since February.
Mats Hummels has not been named in the Germany squad as a result of the patellar tendon issue that has affected him over the last few months. He will continue his rehab in Dortmund during the international break.
Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Nico Schulz have been left out of the 26-man squad. While highly rated RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi has been called up for the first time. Hoffenheim left-back David Raum and SC Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterback have also been included.
Germany will play World Cup qualifiers against Lichtenstein, Armenia and Iceland during the upcoming international break.
