Borussia Dortmund have received another big injury blow, with Emre Can ruled out for several weeks after suffering a muscle injury in training.

Borussia Dortmund’s injury troubles are showing no signs of coming to an end. According to Kicker, Emre Can has suffered yet another injury and now faces several weeks out on the sidelines. Marco Rose confirmed ahead of Friday’s game against Hoffenheim that Can had suffered a muscle injury in training, and it would rule him out for a few days. But now it appears that the injury is more serious than initially expected.

The news is another bitter blow for Emre Can, who previously missed the majority of pre-season and the first three games of the new season due to a calf injury. He came off the bench against SC Freiburg last weekend. And it was expected that he would start against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday. But he did not make the squad after picking up a thigh injury in training.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Can is expected to miss the Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen in two weeks’ time. The newspaper adds that the earliest he could make his return is Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League opener against Besiktas on September 15.

Can’s injury further adds to Borussia Dortmund’s woes. Mats Hummels is still struggling with the patellar tendon issue that has affected him over the last few months. While Thorgan Hazard and Nico Schulz are also sidelined with their respective injuries. It is unclear when the trio will be able to return to training, although Hazard has been named in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
