14 Borussia Dortmund players called up for international duty

A total of 14 Borussia Dortmund players have been called up by their respective national teams for the upcoming international break. 

The first international break of the 2021/22 season is upon us and a total of 14 Borussia Dortmund players have been called up. A number of exciting matches lie ahead, including several World Cup qualifiers. Two BVB strikers will also go up against each other this week.

Erling Haaland is part of Norway’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands, Latvia and Gibraltar. While Donyell Malen and the Netherlands will go up against Norway, Montenegro and Turkey.

Marco Reus and Mahmoud Dahoud are both back in the Germany squad and will take on Lichtenstein, Armenia and Iceland.

Borussia Dortmund’s Belgium trio have Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier have also been called up. Although Hazard is currently carrying an ankle injury. So the plan is for him to travel to the Belgium camp, get examined and then return to Dortmund. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for Borussia Dortmund’s next game against Bayer Leverkusen.

Gio Reyna will head off to the North America to play three World Cup qualifiers with the United States. He will go up against El Salvador, Canada and Honduras, and will probably only return to Dortmund a day before the Bayer Leverkusen clash.

Manuel Akanji and Gregor Kobel will both be in action for Switzerland, as they take on Greece, Italy and Northern Ireland. While Jude Bellingham is in the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland.

Raphael Guerreiro has been called up by Portugal. The Euro 2016 winners will play World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Azerbaijan, and a friendly against Qatar.

Also in action will be Youssoufa Moukoko, who could make his debut for the Germany U-21s. The 2021 Euro U-21 winners will face San Marino and Latvia. Ansgar Knauff and Luca Unbehaun have both been called up by the Germany U-20s. They will go up against the Czech Republic and Norway.
