Borussia Dortmund sign Marin Pongracic from Wolfsburg
Borussia Dortmund have completed the last-minute signing of Marin Pongracic from VfL Wolfsburg on a season long loan deal.
Borussia Dortmund have bolstered their defence on transfer deadline day with the arrival of Marin Pongracic from Wolfsburg. The 23 year old joins the club on a season long loan deal with an option to buy for around 10-12 million euros at the end of the campaign.
Following the injuries to Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Soumaila Coulibaly, the Black and Yellows have been left shorthanded in defence at the start of the season. Michael Zorc hinted at the possibility of a new defender arriving before the transfer window slammed shut. Diogo Dalot, Marcel Halstenberg, and Jeremiah St. Juste were some of the names thrown linked with a move to Dortmund in the past weeks and months. And in the end, the BVB bosses decided to sign Pongracic.
Marin Pongracic hasn’t had much game time of late, but he could be exactly the versatile addition Borussia Dortmund needed in defence. The Croatian international is capable of playing at centre-back and also at right-back, two positions that seem to be lacking quality depth. He also comes with Bundesliga experience, having made 23 appearances for Wolfsburg.
Marco Rose is already familiar with Pongracic, having coached him at RB Salzburg. Pongracic could make his Borussia Dortmund against Bayer Leverkusen following the international break. With his arrival now confirmed, Marin Pongracic becomes Borussia Dortmund’s fifth signing of the summer after Gregor Kobel (VfB Stuttgart), Soumaila Coulibaly (PSG), Abdoulaye Kamara (PSG) and Donyell Malen (PSV Eindhoven).
