A number of clubs from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga were interested in signing Ansgar Knauff on loan this summer. But the 19 year old decided to stay at Borussia Dortmund.
Ansgar Knauff has enjoyed quite the rise at Borussia Dortmund over the last 12 months. The highly rated winger got an assist on his Bundesliga debut in March, and followed that up by starting in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City, and scoring the winner against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
According to Sport1, Knauff had offers to leave Borussia Dortmund on loan this summer. Two Bundesliga clubs and several 2. Bundesliga clubs were interested in signing the youngster, including Hamburger SV. But he decided to stay with the Black and Yellows, also in part because they failed to sign a winger on transfer deadline day. BVB were reportedly interested in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi on a season long loan deal, but Chelsea refused to let him leave.
Knauff showed glimpses of his talent during pre-season. And head coach Marco Rose said in July that he will look to work with Knauff in order to help develop him into a classic winger who can take players on and cut inside from wide positions.
Knauff has yet to feature for the first team so far this season, and has made four appearances for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s in the 3. Liga. But with games set to come thick and fast after the international break, he will likely get his opportunity in the first team before long.
