Michael Zorc praises Gregor Kobel after strong start to Borussia Dortmund career

Gregor Kobel has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s standout performers so far this season. And Michael Zorc has now heaped praise on him.
Signing a new first choice goalkeeper was very high on Borussia Dortmund’s list of priorities this summer. Gregor Kobel was the club’s preferred target, and he joined from Stuttgart for a fee of 15 million euros. The 23 year old has made a strong start to life at the Signal Iduna Park, and showed his quality with a match-winning performance in the 3-2 win over TSG Hoffenheim last weekend.
Michael Zorc was asked about Kobel’s impressive start by Kicker. And the Borussia Dortmund sporting director praised the goalkeeper for his aggressiveness and presence between the sticks.
"“We got him for performances like the one against Hoffenheim. He has a good charisma, which is an important factor. His aggressiveness in particular is good for our game.”"
Kobel’s performances for Borussia Dortmund also helped him earn his first cap for Switzerland earlier this week.
While Kobel has quickly become a very important player for Borussia Dortmund, his predecessor Roman Bürki is facing a tricky period. The 30 year old was free to leave for a cut-price fee in the recently concluded transfer window. But the Black and Yellows did not receive any concrete offers for him.
Bürki is now Borussia Dortmund’s third choice goalkeeper, and he is very unlikely to get any playing time in the first team this season. Michael Zorc said that neither the club nor Bürki expected the situation to play out like this, but added that he expects the goalkeeper to behave in a professional manner in the coming months.
"Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten, “We certainly imagined that the current situation would be different and so did he. We have held talks with him and now it is a matter of behaving professionally. That’s exactly what Roman Bürki has been doing.”"
While the transfer window is still open in Russia and Turkey, Ruhr Nachrichten report that Bürki will likely have to wait until at least January to secure a move away from Borussia Dortmund.
