Borussia Dortmund will play their fourth game of the Bundesliga season this coming Saturday away to Bayer Leverkusen.

With the international break now wrapped up, club football returns with an all important clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund set to take place on Saturday. Marco Rose’s side will look to put in a better performance than they did in their first three games, and beating Leverkusen would be a strong statement of intent ahead of what looks to be a congested month of football for Die Schwarzgelben.

Recent form

Borussia Dortmund’s form has been far from stable since the start of the season, with the team going hot and cold over the course of the initial five game span. An emphatic 5-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt was followed by two subsequent losses to Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup and SC Freiburg in the league. Dortmund were able to pull off a shaky win at home against Hoffenheim, but needed to once again lean on the heroics of Erling Haaland to get a last gasp winner. These results do little in terms of clarifying just what Dortmund side will go out to face Leverkusen on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen, on their part, have been in a much more steady vein of form. Aside from a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin, Leverkusen have been scoring goals for fun, putting a total of 12 past their opponents in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal first round. They have also only conceded 2 goals in that timeframe. Most notable of these results is a 4-0 blowout of Borussia Mönchengladbach; a game which perfectly encapsulates Leverkusen’s hot run of form. Both teams will no doubt be ready to score goals, but Leverkusen look to be in better defensive shape at the moment, as per their recent form.
