Axel Witsel (4/10)

Witsel returned to his favourite holding midfield role. But the game seemed to pass him by at times. He looked too slow against the dynamic Leverkusen midfielders and struggled against the dangerous Florian Wirtz. His lack of pace gave Leverkusen a lot of space to attack into. And he was replaced by Donyell Malen as Borussia Dortmund chased the game in the second half.

Mahmoud Dahoud (5/10)

Dahoud was adjudged to have fouled Diaby which led to Bellingham’s goal being chalked off. Playing in the number eight role, the German international wasn’t able to make the sort of impact he would have liked. His only offensive contributions were his two shots from distance which went harmlessly wide.

Jude Bellingham (5.5/10)

Bellingham showed good awareness to make it 2-1 for Borussia Dortmund before his goal was ruled out. He then had a great chance in the 44th minute, but he failed to get his shot away in time. He will feel that he could have done better to prevent Diaby from restoring Leverkusen’s advantage just minutes after Brandt’s equaliser. But he did manage to make amends with a vital block to deny Adli late in the game.

Bellingham also made some really good runs into the box. But his decision making in the final third wasn’t always the best.
