Erling Haaland loves scoring in the UEFA Champions League, and his record in the competition is simply incredible. The Borussia Dortmund striker has 20 goals to his name in just 16 appearances in the Champions League. He finished as the tournament’s top scorer last season. And he will want to repeat that feat this season.
Jude Bellingham scored his first Champions League goal during Borussia Dortmund’s last outing in the competition. And he will have a key role to play if the Black and Yellows are to make another deep run in the competition this season.
Bellingham’s battle against Miralem Pjanić will certainly be one to watch on Wednesday. Pjanić joined Besiktas from Barcelona on loan earlier this month. And he brings with him a lot of quality and experience.
Former Borussia Dortmund striker Michy Batshuayi opened his account for the season at the weekend with a brace against Yeni Malatyaspor. He will be crucial to Besiktas’ hopes of making it to the knockout rounds.
Previous Meeting
Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas have met twice in their history. Both meetings came during the 1989/90 Cup Winners’ Cup. The two sides faced off in the first round of the tournament. And it was Borussia Dortmund who came out on top on both occasions, winning the first leg 1-0 and the second leg 2-1. Michael Zorc was in the BVB starting XI for both games.
Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas should be another hard-fought and entertaining affair. With three crucial points at stake, both teams will be aiming to start the Champions League group stage on a high.
