Borussia Dortmund 4-2 Union Berlin: Key Takeaways
Borussia Dortmund managed to walk away with all three points at the Westfalenstadion on Sunday as they hosted Union Berlin in a 4-2 thriller of a game.
When it comes to closely watching Borussia Dortmund play in the Bundesliga, it is safe to say that there is absolutely never a dull moment with this side. The matchday five clash with Union Berlin was no different, with Die Schwarzgelben hosting a Union Berlin side that has often proved to be a tricky opponent in the last couple of years.
Borussia Dortmund seemed to be flying in this game, and were up 3-0 until the 57th minute courtesy of a wonder goal by Raphaël Guerreiro, a strong header from Erling Haaland, and a Union Berlin own goal supplied by Marco Reus. As with most of Dortmund’s performances this season however, a three goal cushion on its own would not be enough for them to seal the win without some bumps along the way.
In the 57th minute, Union Berlin were awarded a penalty after Axel Witsel made a tackle that was adjudged to be a foul. Max Kruse scored from the spot as expected, and in the 81st minute Andreas Voglsammer managed to bring the deficit down to one after he connected on the end of a cross played in from a corner.
It would be up to Haaland to provide the goods just minutes later with a sublime finish from a Mats Hummels long ball as he lobbed the keeper from a very difficult angle. All in all it was yet another game that displayed both the best and worst of Dortmund this season, so lets take a closer look at some of the key takeaways from this game.
