Marius Wolf was reportedly free to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer. But the versatile wide player never had any thoughts about seeking a move away from the club.

After spending the last two seasons out on loan, Marius Wolf is finally back in the Borussia Dortmund squad this season. He has already made five substitute appearances so far, and has put in some encouraging cameo performances. The 26 year old has now said that he did not waste any time thinking about leaving the club this summer, and he is very satisfied with the playing time he is getting so far.

In an interview with Transfermarkt, Wolf said:

"“In the summer, when I came back, I have to be honest and say that I didn’t waste any time thinking about leaving. I wanted to take part in the pre-season. My injury in between was tough, but before then I was doing relatively well. These things happen and you can’t change them, so you have to keep going.”“Before the season, I set myself the goal of getting some playing time. Of course, I know that there is enormous quality in the team and that we have players of world-class quality. I fight every day in training. The way things have gone so far, I’m quite satisfied.”"

Wolf also spoke about his future plans, and said that he would ideally like to stay at Borussia Dortmund at least until his contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season. Wolf, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018, added that he was a BVB supporter as a young boy. And so the opportunity to join the Black and Yellows was a ‘dream come true’ for him.

"“I was a Dortmund fan as a young boy, and it was always my dream to play for BVB. When I got the offer, it was a big dream come true for me. I really wanted to do it.”“I hope I stay as long as my contract runs (laughs). In football, you never know where you’ll be in six months or a year. That’s why I’m not thinking about what might happen in a year. I want to perform well here now and help the team to the best of my ability. We’ll see what happens in two or three years.”"

Wolf has made a total of 28 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring one goal. He spent the last two seasons out on loan with Hertha Berlin and FC Köln respectively, so this is only his second full season with the club.

Wolf also heaped praise on teammate Raphael Guerreiro, calling him the most underrated player in the Bundesliga. Guerreiro has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s best performers over the last 18 months, but does not always get the recognition he deserves outside of the club. “Raphael Guerreiro is an outstanding player for me – perhaps even the most underrated in the Bundesliga,” Wolf said.
