New COVID-19 regulations in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia mean that Borussia Dortmund will be able to have more than 67,000 fans at the Westfalenstadion, starting with the game against Mainz 05 in two weeks’ time.

The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced a change in COVID-19 regulations that will allow clubs in the region to sell 100% of their seated tickets and 50% of their standing tickets. These changes will come into effect starting from October 01. And this means that Borussia Dortmund will be able to have close to 70,000 fans at the Westfalenstadion very soon.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said that the club have sorely missed the fans over the last 18 months. “The trust of the NRW state government makes us very happy. All of us at BVB have sorely missed each and every fan over the past year and a half.”

Since Borussia Dortmund’s next home game against FC Augsburg is only two days away, it would not be possible to implement these changes so quickly.

But Borussia Dortmund have initially released 11,000 additional tickets in addition to the 25,000 tickets that have already been sold for this weekend’s game against Augsburg. If these tickets get sold out quickly, the Black and Yellows plan to release additional blocks for purchase in the west and east stands.

Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer has also confirmed that the plan is to have more than 67,000 spectators for the club’s home game against Mainz 05 on October 16.

"“The new Corona Protection Regulations stipulate that in the future we will be allowed to sell all 52,692 seated tickets and half of the 28,673 standing tickets. That adds up to just over 67,000 tickets. Due to the short notice of the new regulation, this can only be implemented for our home match against Mainz on 16 October.”“Nevertheless, we would like to give our fans the immediate opportunity to purchase additional tickets for the match against Augsburg, in addition to the quota already sold.”"

Borussia Dortmund have also confirmed that the 2G rule will stay in place, meaning only those who have been vaccinated or have recovered from the virus will be allowed into the stadium. Children under the age of 18 and those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons will be allowed to enter the stadium if they can provide a negative COVID-19 test.
