Emre Can has endured a difficult start to the season due to injuries. But the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is delighted to finally be back on the pitch.

Emre Can made his return from injury during Borussia Dortmund’s win over FC Augsburg on Saturday. And the 27 year old has said that he is happy to be back on the pitch after a long spell on the sidelines.

"When asked by BVB-TV about how it feels to be back on the pitch, Can said:“Pretty good actually. My last game in the starting lineup was in May. That’s a really long time. That wait was really tough during the last few weeks. I often had some minor things that prevented me from being fit to play. I am not very patient when it comes to this topic. I was just happy to finally be on the pitch again. And in addition, in front of all the supporters in the stadium.”"

It has been a difficult start to the season season for Emre Can, who has missed nine of Borussia Dortmund’s 11 games so far due to injuries. The versatile midfielder missed the entire pre-season due to a calf problem. And after finally making his return on matchday two of the Bundesliga season, he suffered a torn muscle fibre in training that ruled him out for several weeks.

Emre Can finally returned to training last week and was included in the squad to take on FC Augsburg. The German international came off the bench to replace Axel Witsel in midfield and delivered a largely solid shift to help the Black and Yellows see out the win.

Can will now be looking to use the international break to get back to full fitness. He could get some more minutes under his belt on Thursday as Borussia Dortmund take on SC Paderborn in a friendly match. With games set to come thick and fast after the international break, having a versatile player like Can in the squad will certainly be useful for Marco Rose’s side.
