Erling Haaland nominated for the Ballon d’Or; Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna in Kopa Trophy contention
Erling Haaland has been named in the 30-man list of Ballon d’Or nominees, while Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna are both among the contenders to win the Kopa Trophy.
The accolades seem to keep on coming for Borussia Dortmund’s young stars these days. Erling Haaland in particular has been nominated for one of the most coveted personal awards the sport has to offer: the Ballon d’Or. Haaland’s nomination comes on the back of a season where the Norwegian international scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.
The nomination is of course just another hallmark of the quality Borussia Dortmund’s number 9 brings to the table. He is nominated alongside the likes of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, PSG duo Neymar and Lionel Messi, and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the 30 man shortlist. Haaland’s inclusion is just another chip on his shoulder as he marches on in the quest to become one of the world’s best as his career progresses.
In addition to Haaland, fellow Borussia Dortmund teammates Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna have been nominated for the 2021 Kopa trophy. The trophy is awarded every year to the best under-21 player in the world. It is no shock that Bellingham’s performances with Dortmund over the course of last season in particular have been noticed and appreciated.
Bellingham was a huge part of Borussia Dortmund’s run to the quarterfinals in the Champions League and also played an immense role on helping BVB secure the DFB Pokal, His performances in midfield have been phenomenal going into this season as well, which makes the nomination all the more deserved.
While not as influential as Bellingham, Reyna has also played an important role for Borussia Dortmund over the last 12 months, developing his game as one of the United States national team’s future stars.
Reyna has had the propensity to pop up with goals when his team have needed them, but his start to this season has been marred by injury, Luckily for Reyna and Dortmund, his spell on the sidelines seems to be over, and hopefully he can continue to replicate the form that earned him a nomination for this prestigious award in the first place.
