Defenders: Thomas Meunier, Manuel Akanji, Mats Hummels, Nico Schulz

Thomas Meunier has been struggling with a foot injury for a while now. But he has recovered to take his place in the starting XI at right-back. The Belgian international has made a strong start to the season. So him being fit is a big boost for the Black and Yellows.

Manuel Akanji has also been dealing with an injury, but he also starts for Borussia Dortmund against Mainz.

Akanji will be partnered by Mats Hummels, who isn’t operating at 100% either due to his ongoing troubles with a patellar issue. Hummels used the international break to work on getting back to full fitness. And the hope will be that the injury does not bother him going forward.

With Raphael Guerreiro ruled out, we will see Nico Schulz come into the starting XI to replace him at left-back.
