Thomas Meunier (7/10)

Meunier looked very lively down the right flank. He delivered the cross that led to Borussia Dortmund’s opener and came close to scoring with a fine strike from the edge of the box. He also delivered a couple of good crosses in the second half and kept things tight on the defensive end.

Manuel Akanji (7/10)

Akanji showed his importance to Borussia Dortmund with another strong performance. He made several important tackles and interceptions for his side and kept the Mainz forwards quiet for the majority of the game. As always, his passing was near faultless.

Mats Hummels (7/10)

Like Akanji, Hummels also made several clever passes from the back and did a solid job of keeping things tight defensively. He also came close to scoring in the second half, but his header hit the post.

Nico Schulz (6/10)

Schulz saw a lot of the ball but he wasn’t able to make much of an impression going forward. He was defensively solid and did not do a whole lot wrong. Overall, it was a decent performance from the former Hoffenheim man, even though he once again lacked the attacking quality that Raphael Guerreiro brings to the team.
