The last time these two sides met was in the group stage of the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League. Borussia Dortmund delivered a stunning performance to earn a 4-1 win over Ajax in Amsterdam.
Marco Reus opened the scoring for the Black and Yellows, before Mario Götze added a second at the half hour mark. Robert Lewandowski made it 3-0 going into the break, and then doubled his tally in the second half to seal an emphatic win. Danny Hoesen scored a consolation goal for Ajax late in the game.
Borussia Dortmund also beat Ajax in the reverse fixture a couple of months earlier thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s 87th minute winner.
It was a memorable season in the Champions League for Borussia Dortmund, as they went all the way to the final where they suffered a narrow defeat to Bayern Munich.
