Borussia Dortmund wish to develop Youssoufa Moukoko themselves instead of loaning him out, according to Sebastian Kehl.

Borussia Dortmund’s prowess at developing talented young players into superstars is a quality that the club has been lauded for in many a footballing circle across the globe. When it comes to home grown talent like Youssoufa Moukoko, the club has firmly backed itself to be the primary source through which the players develop, forgoing the possibility of a loan at this time. Dortmund’s current player license department director Sebastian Kehl has been firm on his stance in this regard, stating the following to Sport Bild:

We are giving Youssoufa the time he needs to develop as a 16-year-old. He is very ambitious and wants to improve every day.” – Sebastian Kehl.

Kehl’s stance is a sign of intent to help develop the young Moukoko into a future star for Die Schwarzgelben, but also a sign that the club is still looking to shelter him from the trials and tribulations that come with player development at such a young age. The club are very aware of that Moukoko’s development is in a tender phase. The player needs proper guidance as well as minutes on the field.

Kehl went on to say that Borussia Dortmund categorically don’t want to loan Moukoko out in January, and also that the player himself is not looking for a loan move himself. At 16 years old it will be some time yet before Moukoko can become the star of the show for Borussia Dortmund. Even with his talent, putting that sort of pressure on the player may prove detrimental as it has in the case of so many other young, up and coming stars. If Moukoko’s stats and performances to date are anything to go by, with careful nurturing he could blossom into a real force for Dortmund in the years to come.
