Bradley Fink and Julian Rijkhoff on target as Borussia Dortmund U-19s thrash Schalke 4-0
Borussia Dortmund U-19s celebrated a Revierderby win on Sunday afternoon, beating Schalke 04 4-0 in the U19 Bundesliga-West.
Fresh off a memorable 5-1 win over Ajax in the UEFA Youth League, the Borussia Dortmund U-19s returned to action on Sunday to take on Schalke 04 in front of 1000 supporters at the Brackel youth stadium. And the young Black and Yellows earned an impressive 4-0 win over their Ruhr rivals to open up a three point lead at the top of the U19 Bundesliga-West standings.
The Borussia Dortmund U-19s dominated what was a very lively contest right from the start but weren’t able to find a way past the Schalke defence in the first half. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 56th minute. And it was the in-form Bradley Fink who opened the scoring for BVB. The highly rated striker got on the end of Samuel Bamba’s low cross to score his 17th goal of the season for the U-19s.
Nnamdi Collins then headed home from a free-kick to double Borussia Dortmund’s lead in the 80th minute. Ayukayoh Mengot added a third in the 89th minute, before Julian Rijkhoff sealed the comprehensive win by making it 4-0 from close range in stoppage time.
It was a strong performance from the Borussia Dortmund U-19s, even though it took them a while to convert their dominance into goals. The win helped the BVB U-19s take a three point lead at the top of the U19 Bundesliga-West standings. Next up for Mike Tullberg’s side is a visit to FC Köln next weekend.
