Borussia Dortmund will find out their next DFB-Pokal opponents when the draw for the round of 16 takes place on Sunday. 

The second round of the 2021/22 DFB-Pokal was full of dramatic matches, surprise results and exciting football. 16 teams still remain in the DFB-Pokal and the draw for the third round of the competition will take place this Sunday. Borussia Dortmund are the defending champions, and they will be aiming to reach the final once again this season.

There were plenty of close matches and surprise results in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. Second division side Karlsruher SC delivered the biggest upset of the round by beating Bayer Leverkusen. While Schalke 04 were also eliminated after losing to third division side 1860 Munich.

Last year’s finalists Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are among the favourites to win the DFB-Pokal this season. Borussia Mönchengladbach are also in contention following their stunning 5-0 win over Bayern Munich in the second round. Here is a look at the 16 teams that will be in Sunday’s draw for the third round of the DFB-Pokal.

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg, RB Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Mainz 05, TSG Hoffenheim, Hertha BSC, Union Berlin, VfL Bochum, FC Köln

2. Bundesliga: St. Pauli, Hamburger SV, Hansa Rostock, Karlsruher SC, Hannover 96

3. Liga: 1860 Munich

The DFB-Pokal round of 16 matches will take place on 18–19 January 2022. The quarterfinals will be played on 1-2 March, while the semi-finals are scheduled for 19–20 April. And the final will take place on 21 May 2022 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
