Borussia Dortmund reportedly interested in signing Jobe Bellingham
Borussia Dortmund have once again been linked with speculation surrounding a move for Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of current BVB star Jude Bellingham.
Borussia Dortmund have been linked with young teenage winger Jobe Bellingham from Birmingham City in recent days, per Sport Bild. These links are not completely new, considering the younger brother of Jude Bellingham was informally tipped for a move to the club by former interim coach Edin Terzic during his spell at the helm. Terzic, now Dortmund’s technical director, stated then that the club wouldn’t have anything against a move for the younger Bellingham brother, but that they would have to wait for the right time.
It would seem that “the right time” may be soon approaching as the club have apparently intensified their interest in making the move reality. Jobe Bellingham’s primary position is on the right wing, but of course the youngster, aged 15, is far too young to be expected to step into the team and make a serious impact. He would of course be a signing for the future.
The move is also being slated by SportBILD as an attempt to entice Jude Bellingham to stay in Dortmund for the long term. Sebastian Kehl has already made it clear that this is the club’s goal, stating that Jude is “exactly where he needs to be” and that there is no indications that the player wants to leave. This will of course be good news for Dortmund fans all around.
There is certainly more utility to a move for Jobe Bellingham than simply being the bargaining chip that keeps his brother Jude in Germany, however. Jobe Bellingham is proving to be a young talent in his own right. In five appearances for Birmingham City in the u18 Premier League, Bellingham has already scored three goals, showing that he could be a capable addition to Dortmund’s youth setup.
Dortmund’s youth teams have been slowly adding talent from the academy and across Europe, quietly building what looks like could be the next generation of young stars to play at the Westfalenstadion. If the move for Bellingham goes through, he would join the likes of Julian Rijkhoff, Bradley Fink, Nnamdi Collins, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Abdoulaye Kamara and form a solid core that could eventually all break through to the first team.
In that sense, it would only benefit Jobe’s career to join a team like Borussia Dortmund; a team that could help take his game to the next level irrespective of the fact that he would be following in his brother’s footsteps.
