Defenders: Marin Pongracic, Manuel Akanji, Mats Hummels

Marco Rose has decided to stick with the back three formation, with Marin Pongracic keeping his place in the side. The Croatian international starts his third game in a row and will be aiming to build on the encouraging start he has made to his Borussia Dortmund career.

Manuel Akanji was given a bit of rest on Tuesday and makes his return to the starting XI against Köln. The Swiss international has been Borussia Dortmund’s best defender this season, and will be looking to continue his excellent run of form this weekend.

It may not have been a bad idea to give Mats Hummels some rest with games against Ajax and RB Leipzig coming up next week. But the experienced defender starts once again.
