The DFB have announced all the key dates for the 2022/23 Bundesliga season which will be heavily impacted by the FIFA World Cup.
The calendar for the 2022/23 Bundesliga season has been made official by the DFB. The Bundesliga season will get underway on 5 August, 2022, with the 2. Bundesliga season kicking off three weeks earlier on July 15, 2022.
The 2022/23 season will be heavily impacted by the FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from 21 November, 2022 to 18 December, 2022.
All the top European leagues will take a break during the FIFA World Cup. The final matchday of 2022 will take place on the weekend of November 11-13. A month-long winter break will follow the World Cup, and the Bundesliga season will then resume on 20 January, 2023.
UEFA are also planning to complete the group stage fixtures of all three of their club competitions before the World Cup gets underway. So it is likely that Borussia Dortmund will have to deal with a packed fixture list if they qualify for next season’s Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League.
As always, the Bundesliga teams will begin their seasons with the first round of the DFB-Pokal, which will get underway on 29 July, 2022. The DFL-Supercup will take place on the same weekend (30 July). And the teams that qualify for the Supercup will play their DFB-Pokal first round games on 30 August.
The season will also end on a much later date than usual. The final matchday of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season is scheduled for 27 May, 2023. While the final of the DFB-Pokal will be held on 3 June, 2023.
