Players to Watch

Thorgan Hazard has been in phenomenal form as of late for Borussia Dortmund and has become one of Marco Rose’s key players when it has come to coming away from games with wins recently. The Belgian international has scored three times in the last two games, including a brace to get the Black and Yellows through to the next round of the DFB-Pokal. Hazard has struggled with injuries so far this term but he is finding more and more confidence with each game he plays in.

Marco Reus will have an even more important role to play against Ajax with Erling Haaland out injured. The captain hasn’t scored in his last four games, but he will be key for Dortmund if they are to pick up the win on Wednesday evening. In a game of this magnitude, Borussia Dortmund will be looking for him to step up to give them the best chance of winning.

Antony has arguably been Ajax’s best player this season along with Sebastien Haller with his turn of pace, technical skills and his trickery. He has been a nightmare for defenders to go up against, as Borussia Dortmund found out in the reverse fixture. The Brazilian winger scored in the previous meeting between these two sides and also has three goals in his last six games in all competitions. Antony is one Ajax’s main sources of creativity. And stopping him will be key to Dortmund’s chances of winning.

Previous Meeting

The last time these two sides met, Ajax blew Borussia Dortmund away at the Johan Cruijff Arena, coming away with a 4-0 win. An own goal from Marco Reus and goals from Daley Blind, Antony and Haller were enough to see off Marco Rose’s side in what was a humbling experience for the Black and Yellows.
