What the Borussia Dortmund players need to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup
By Tushar Bahl
Manuel Akanji, Gregor Kobel – Switzerland
Manuel Akanji is part of the Switzerland squad for their decisive World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Bulgaria. Switzerland are currently second in Group C, only behind Italy on goal difference. If they manage to beat Italy and get at least a draw against Bulgaria, they will automatically qualify for the World Cup. However, they are already assured of a spot in the play-offs even if they fail to overtake Italy in the next two games.
Erling Haaland – Norway
Erling Haaland is currently injured and thus not part of the Norway squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and the Netherlands. Norway are currently second in their qualifying group, two points behind the Netherlands with two games to go. If they manage to win their final two group games, they will directly qualify for the World Cup.
Otherwise, Norway will advance to the play-offs as long as they can stay clear of third placed Turkey (who are two points behind).
Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Mahmoud Dahoud – Germany
Germany have already sealed their place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Die Mannschaft have an eight point lead over second placed Romania with two games to go. And they will be looking to use the next two games to continue their impressive run of form. Marco Reus and Julian Brandt are part of the Germany squad for their games against Liechtenstein and Armenia.
