Immanuel Pherai determined to make first-team breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund
Immanuel Pherai remains determined to make his first-team breakthrough for Borussia Dortmund.
Immanuel Pherai is still awaiting his maiden first-team appearance for Borussia Dortmund. But the attacking midfielder is not giving up hope of playing in the Bundesliga for the Black and Yellows.
"In an interview with Spox, Pherai said: “I haven’t given up on that dream – I want to play my first Bundesliga game for BVB. That’s what I came here for four years ago. I also continue to believe that I can reach the necessary level.”"
Immanuel Pherai: I quickly decided against Manchester United
Pherai also revealed that he had offers to join Manchester United and Ajax when he was leaving AZ Alkmaar at the age of 16, but added that the decision to join Borussia Dortmund was a pretty easy one.
"“I had offers from Ajax and Manchester United. It was only after that that BVB came along. I was confident enough to take the step to another country. I quickly decided against Manchester, even though the interest was concrete and I was even invited there. After I spoke to Dortmund for the first time, the decision was pretty easy, because they showed me a concrete plan and I felt comfortable right away.”"
Pherai joined Borussia Dortmund from AZ Alkmaar in 2017 as a highly rated talent. After impressing for the club’s youth teams, he was given a chance to impress in the first-team during pre-season last year under Lucien Favre. He then joined Dutch side PEC Zwolle on loan, where he made a total of 28 appearances and scored two goals.
Pherai made his return to Dortmund in the summer and has been playing for the U-23s in the 3. Liga this season. The 20 year old has made 14 appearances in the 3. Liga so far this season, and has one goal and four assists to his name.
Pherai’s contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the current season. He revealed that clubs in the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga are already showing a concrete interest in signing him. And he wouldn’t be opposed to a loan move in order to get more playing time, especially if it increases his chances of making his breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund.
