Marco Reus was on target for Germany on Thursday evening as they earned an emphatic 9-0 win over Liechtenstein to continue their incredible start to the Hansi Flick era.

Germany have already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but that did not stop them from scoring nine goals past Liechtenstein in Wolfsburg on Thursday evening. Marco Reus was on target for Die Mannschaft, who made it eight wins out of nine in the World Cup qualifiers.

Germany got off to a dream start as they were awarded a penalty inside the opening ten minutes. Liechtenstein’s Jens Hofer was sent off for a high boot inside the box, and Ilkay Gündogan made it 1-0 from the resulting spot kick. An own goal from Daniel Kaufmann then doubled Germany’s lead in the 20th minute, before Leroy Sané added a third.

Marco Reus then got on the scoresheet just 90 seconds later to help Germany take full control of the game. The Borussia Dortmund captain swept home after getting on the end of a lose ball inside the box.

Reus then set up Sané for Germany’s fifth with a lovely cut-back early in the second half, before Thomas Müller made it 6-0 with a tap-in. Ridle Baku then found the back of the net with a stunning curling effort from a very tight angle. Müller then doubled his tally, and the 9-0 win was sealed by an own goal from Max Göppel.

Marco Reus played 90 minutes for Germany, while Borussia Dortmund teammate Julian Brandt was an unused substitute.

The ruthless 9-0 win helped Hansi Flick become the first Germany head coach to win his first six games in charge. And he will be looking to make it seven in a row on Sunday, as Germany take on Armenia.
