Marco Rose hopes that third-choice Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki finds a club where he will get some playing time soon.

The chances of Roman Bürki playing again for Borussia Dortmund are almost non-existent. The 31 year old finds himself behind both Gregor Kobel and Marwin Hitz in the pecking order, and he is free to leave the club for a cut-price fee.

Marco Rose was asked about Bürki’s current situation and future during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against VfB Stuttgart. The Borussia Dortmund head coach praised the professionalism of Bürki, and said that he hopes the Swiss shot-stopper finds a new club where he can be first-choice.

"“I have to say how Roman is behaving in his situation here is extraordinarily impressive. He is there for the team, is well prepared, trains well. If we needed him, he would be there.”“I wish for him, and I’ve told him this, that he gets back the role he was made for. That he finds a way for himself in sporting terms again, where he can stand in goal and do what he likes to do best. Because I think he’s earned that. As long as he’s part of the club, of course he’ll get all the support we can give. He’s rarely on the pitch at the moment, but again, the way he’s conducted himself is exceptional.”"

Roman Bürki hasn’t played for Borussia Dortmund this season

Roman Bürki, who lost his spot as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice goalkeeper in January, last played for the club back in May. And he only got his opportunity in the team then because Marwin Hitz suffered an injury. Since then, the former Freiburg goalkeeper has been forced to watch from the sidelines.

The BVB bosses were keen on selling Bürki in the summer transfer window, but they weren’t able to find a buyer for him. Swiss side FC Basel were reportedly interested in signing Bürki in the summer, but nothing ever materialised because they couldn’t afford his wages.

Borussia Dortmund will look to part ways with Bürki in the upcoming winter transfer window. And the hope will be that the club and the player can reach a mutually beneficial solution.
