Bundesliga Roundup: Bayern Munich slip up and Borussia Dortmund take advantage

Borussia Dortmund closed the gap to Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga standings, while Union Berlin claimed the bragging rights against rivals Hertha on matchday 12.
The Bundesliga made its return this weekend and matchday 12 kicked off with a big surprise as Bayern Munich were handed a 2-1 defeat by FC Augsburg in the Bavarian derby. First half goals from Mads Pedersen and André Hahn secured a priceless win for the struggling Augsburg. While Bayern were made to pay for what was a disjointed performance.
Borussia Dortmund took full advantage as they earned a 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart to move within one point of Bayern Munich. Donyell Malen opened his Bundesliga account to make it 1-0 for the Black and Yellows, before Roberto Massimo equalised for Stuttgart. But Marco Reus scored a late winner to help his side claim three vital points.
Third placed SC Freiburg suffered their second defeat in a row, as they were beaten 2-0 by Eintracht Frankfurt. First half goals from Jesper Lindström and Filip Kostic helped the Eagles move up to 11th place in the Bundesliga standings.
Bundesliga roundup: Union Berlin take the derby spoils
Fans were treated to another fascinating Berlin derby on Saturday evening, as Union Berlin got the better of local rivals Hertha BSC. Taiwo Awoniyi and Christopher Trimmel scored in the first half to help Union Berlin earn a famous derby win.
Bayer Leverkusen squeaked past VfL Bochum thanks to Amine Adli’s 4th minute effort. The win helped Gerardo Seoane’s side move up to fourth place in the Bundesliga standings.
Wolfsburg came from two goals behind to rescue a 2-2 draw away to Arminia Bielefeld. Masaya Okugawa and Fabian Klos found the net to help the struggling Bielefeld claim a two goal lead, before Wout Weghorst and Lukas Nmecha scored in quick succession to help Florian Kohfeldt’s side earn a point.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth’s struggles continued on Saturday as they were handed a 4-0 thrashing by Borussia Mönchengladbach. Jonas Hofmann scored a brace for the Foals, and Florian Neuhaus and Alassane Pléa were also on target. Fürth only have one point to their name after the opening 12 games of the season.
Goals from former RB Salzburg duo Diadie Samassékou and Munas Dabbur helped TSG Hoffenheim down RB Leipzig 2-0. While FC Köln came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Mainz 05. Jonathan Burkardt continued his fine run of form to open the scoring for the 05ers, before the Billy Goats equalised through Salih Özcan.
