Marco Rose: Borussia Dortmund have ambitious goals
By Tushar Bahl
Marco Rose has signalled his intentions to fight for the top spot in the Bundesliga standings following Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund took full advantage of Bayern Munich’s shock defeat to Augsburg by cutting the gap at the top of the Bundesliga standings to just one point on Saturday. Goals from Donyell Malen and Marco Reus helped the Black and Yellows claim a hard fought 2-1 win over Stuttgart.
Marco Rose spoke about Borussia Dortmund’s ambitious goals after the game, and said that his team is determined to fight for the top spot.
"“We took notice of the result yesterday,” Rose told Sky. “We’re within one point of Bayern and we’re not having an easy period. We’re fighting for results, we’ve done really well in the Bundesliga. We are ambitious and want to stay up there at the top.”“Now Bayern are coming here soon, but before that we have a difficult game in Wolfsburg. It’s the German Bundesliga, you don’t get anything for free. But we’re Borussia Dortmund and we have ambitious goals.”"
With just one point separating Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, anticipation is already building up for the meeting between the two title rivals in two weeks’ time. While it is still very early in the season, the game on December 04 will no doubt be of massive significance for both teams.
But Borussia Dortmund still have two tricky matches to navigate before they can turn their attentions to Bayern Munich. Der BVB face an important UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday against Sporting CP, where a defeat would almost certainly see them get relegated to the Europa League.
Borussia Dortmund also face a tough away game in the Bundesliga next weekend against Wolfsburg, who have enjoyed an impressive turnaround under Florian Kohfeldt in recent games.
The next three games will certainly be a big test of Borussia Dortmund’s ambitions. And if they manage to come out on top in all three, they will be in excellent shape going into the rest of the season.
