Nico Schulz made his return to training on Sunday after recovering from his muscle injury, giving Borussia Dortmund another boost.

Borussia Dortmund began their preparations for Wednesday’s game against Sporting CP on Sunday. Marco Rose welcomed back another returnee during Sunday’s training session, as Nico Schulz returned to the pitch after recovering from the muscle injury he suffered last month. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the left-back was able to take part in the entire training session. And he could even make his return to the squad on Wednesday.

Schulz missed six games as a result of his muscle injury, and his return comes at a vital time for Borussia Dortmund.

The newspaper add that Mahmoud Dahoud also took part in Sunday’s training session. The midfielder was surprisingly named on the bench for the game against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. And he is now an option for Wednesday’s crunch UEFA Champions League clash.

Marco Rose will certainly be pleased to see the injury situation easing up. With Borussia Dortmund facing a packed fixture list before the winter break, the 45 year old will want to have the majority of his players available for selection.

One player who will miss Wednesday’s game against Sporting CP is Mats Hummels. The experienced defender was given a controversial red card against Ajax on matchday four of the Champions League group stage, and is suspended as a result.
