Manuel Akanji has said that he feels very comfortable at Borussia Dortmund, and there is nothing that he wants to change at the moment.

Manuel Akanji is enjoying one of the best years of his professional career. The defender has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s most consistent performers since the turn of the year, and he also impressed for Switzerland at the European Championships in the summer. And he has established himself as one of the first names on the BVB team-sheet under Marco Rose this season.

His performances have seen him earn plenty of praise in recent months, including from Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. Akanji was asked about his future in an interview with Kicker. And while the Swiss international is only concentrating on performing well for Borussia Dortmund at the moment, he feels very comfortable with his teammates and the coaching staff at the club.

"“At the moment, I’m just fully concentrating on the team and trying to perform to the best of my ability,” Akanji said. “I feel very comfortable in the team and with the coaching staff. There is nothing I want to change in this regard at the moment.”"

Akanji has really stepped up for Borussia Dortmund this season, taking on a leadership role in defence. He has featured in all 19 of the Black and Yellows’ games so far this season. And Marco Rose’s side would certainly not be in the Bundesliga title race at the moment without his performances.

Akanji has less than two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract, and the BVB bosses will be keen on offering him an extension before long. The 26 year old has the potential to be one of the top defenders in Europe, and the hope will be that he stays in Dortmund for years to come.
