Borussia Dortmund crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after a disastrous 3-1 defeat to Sporting CP in Lisbon.

Borussia Dortmund were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in disappointing fashion on Wednesday after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Sporting CP. Goals from Pedro Goncalves and Pedro Porro helped Sporting CP earn a famous win and book their ticket in the round of 16 at Dortmund’s expense.

The evening was a disaster for Borussia Dortmund even before the first whistle, as Raphael Guerreiro suffered an injury during the pre-match warm-up. His replacement Nico Schulz was at fault for the first goal. And then Emre Can, who replaced Schulz at half-time, was sent off in the second half.

Borussia Dortmund were second best over the course of the 90 minutes, and now they must play Europa League football after the turn of the year.

Here are our player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from their 3-1 defeat to Sporting CP.

Gregor Kobel (7/10)

Kobel was Borussia Dortmund’s best player once again, as he made some really important saves to keep his side in the game. His save to deny Sarabia one on one was especially incredible. And he also saved a penalty late on, only for Sporting to score on the rebound.
