Erling Haaland finishes eleventh in Ballon d’Or rankings; Jude Bellingham second in Kopa Trophy race
Erling Haaland finished just outside the top ten in the Ballon d’Or rankings, while Jude Bellingham was pipped by Barcelona’s Pedri for the Kopa Trophy.
The 2021 Ballon d’Or ceremony took place on Monday and three Borussia Dortmund players were nominated for the various awards. Erling Haaland was named in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award, while Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna were in the running for the Kopa Trophy.
And Haaland ended up finishing 11th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, ahead of the likes of Neymar, Romelu Lukaku, Giorgio Chiellini and Harry Kane. He received a total of 33 points.
Lionel Messi won the 2021 Ballon d’Or award, finishing narrowly ahead of former Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern marksman was considered to be the heavy favourite to win the top award, but had to settle for the Best Striker of the Year award instead.
Jude Bellingham came second in the Kopa Trophy rankings, with Barcelona’s Pedri winning the award. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder received a total of 39 points, and finished ahead of the likes of Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Mason Greenwood.
Gio Reyna was also nominated for the Kopa Trophy award and finished in joint-ninth place in the standings, along with Jérémy Doku.
Haaland, Bellingham and Reyna are all coming off excellent seasons for Borussia Dortmund. The trio have gone from strength to strength since making the move to Dortmund. They are considered to be three of the most highly rated young players in the world, and they will no doubt compete for a lot of individual awards in the coming years.
