Borussia Dortmund are in the race to sign SL Benfica striker Darwin Núñez, with reports in Portugal claiming that they have already held talks with his agent.

Highly rated SL Benfica striker Darwin Núñez is attracting the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester City. Borussia Dortmund are also said to be in the race for the towering striker’s signature, with Portuguese newspaper Record claiming that they have already held talks with his agent about a possible move.

BILD have also confirmed that Darwin Núñez is a player Borussia Dortmund could consider signing if Erling Haaland decides to leave the club next summer. Haaland is being heavily linked with a move away from the Signal Iduna Park, but the BVB bosses are still hopeful of keeping him at the club for at least another year.

Darwin Núñez is enjoying an impressive season with SL Benfica. The 22 year old has scored 11 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions. Three of those goals have come in the UEFA Champions League. He scored twice in Benfica’s 3-0 win over FC Barcelona in September, and then also found the net in the 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich last month.

Núñez still has nearly four years left on his current contract with SL Benfica, so the Portuguese giants will likely demand a high transfer fee in order to part ways with him. The Uruguay international joined Benfica in September 2020 from Spanish side UD Almería for a club record fee of 24 million euros.
