Players to Watch
Two of the best strikers in the world will be in action on Saturday. Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski have been breaking goalscoring records for fun over the last 24 months. And their latest duel should be another fascinating one.
Not many outside of the team would have expected Haaland to be available for the Bayern game even ten days ago. But the Norwegian international has recovered from his hip flexor injury and could even be in the starting XI for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Lewandowski loves scoring against Borussia Dortmund. And after missing out on winning the Ballon d’Or this week, the Bayern striker will be determined to haunt his former club once again.
Mahmoud Dahoud showed last weekend that he makes Borussia Dortmund tick. His tenacity, intensity, high pressing and ability to pick out forward passes will be crucial to Dortmund’s chances on Saturday.
Thomas Müller has been Bayern’s creator in chief for many years now. He already has 14 assists to his name this season, and he is one player Dortmund will have to be wary of as always.
Previous Meeting: Borussia Dortmund 1-3 Bayern Munich
These two sides last met in August, and it was Bayern Munich who came out on top and claimed a 3-1 win to lift the DFL-Supercup. The Bavarians took the lead through Robert Lewandowski on the stroke of half time, before Thomas Müller made it 2-0 early in the second half. Marco Reus pulled a goal back with a stunning effort, but Lewandowski sealed the win for Bayern just ten minutes later.
Bayern Munich have won each of their last six games against Borussia Dortmund. And this weekend is as good a time as any for the Black and Yellows to end that run.
