With Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League campaign now over, Mats Hummels is looking ahead to the Europa League. And he only has one goal: to win the competition.

Borussia Dortmund were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League last month and will now be playing in the UEFA Europa League following the turn of the year. The Black and Yellows ended their Champions League campaign with a dominant 5-0 win over Besiktas JK on Tuesday, and they will now switch their focus to the Europa League. And Mats Hummels is determined to go as far as possible in the competition.

The experienced defender told Amazon Prime Video Sport after Borussia Dortmund’s win over Besiktas on Tuesday that winning the competition is a goal for the club.

"“We are of course very disappointed that we are out of the Champions League. But now we are going to tackle the Europa League and there is logically only one goal for us: to go as far as possible and in the end to win the cup.”"

Hans-Joachim Watzke also stated recently that it must be Borussia Dortmund’s goal to try and reach the final of the Europa League this season.

Borussia Dortmund will no doubt be among the favourites to win the UEFA Europa League this season, but winning it will be no means be an easy task. There are several quality teams in the Europa League, and it will be interesting to see how Dortmund navigate their way through the competition. BVB will enter the competition in the knockout round play-offs.
