Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola, provided some clarity on comments made regarding his client’s future.

Mino Raiola is a character that often creates a stir on the football stage. It’s no accident that recent comments made by Raiola to Sport1 linked Haaland to some of the world’s biggest clubs, namely Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City. Raiola has been shopping around for his client since last season, which has unsettled many a Dortmund fan. It’s no secret that Haaland won’t stay in Dortmund forever, but when asked about when Haaland will “take the next step”, Raiola’s answer was relatively forward and honest:

"“Maybe this summer, maybe the summer after. But there is a big chance that Erling will leave this summer. We will see.” – Mino Raiola, Sport1"

A post on twitter has now seen Raiola backtrack slightly on these comments, with the super-agent clarifying that the clubs mentioned were just examples of the caliber of club that Haaland would eventually join. Raiola reaffirmed that there are currently no negotiations with any other clubs at this time. Haaland is set for talks with Dortmund’s hierarchy about his future, with said talks to commence in the coming weeks. Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc, and Sebastien Kehl have all been clear about their intentions to try and convince Haaland and his entourage that the Norwegian international can continue to develop and grow in Dortmund.

Raiola’s comments leave the door open to a Dortmund stay at least for one more season, and something tells me this possibility is far less far-fetched than it initially seems. Haaland’s career has been carefully planned by those around him since he became a professional footballer. The Norwegian international clearly has specific goals he wishes to achieve and likely already has a concrete destination in mind for his “next step’.

The question then remains not if but when Haaland will leave for pastures new, and just how much Dortmund will benefit from his eventual transfer. The club will be hard pressed to find a replacement that comes close to the impeccable prowess Haaland possesses, but they should at least be well placed financially to go out and get a player suited to do a job in the role the Norwegian will eventually vacate.
