The penultimate matchday of the first half of the Bundesliga season saw lots of goals and drama, as Bayern Munich romped to a 5-0 win, while Borussia Mönchengladbach suffered yet another defeat.

Bayern Munich maintained their six point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings as they claimed an impressive 5-0 win against VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday. Serge Gnabry led the way for Bayern by scoring a hat-trick, while Robert Lewandowski added two more goals to his tally.

Borussia Dortmund responded to Bayern’s thrashing of Stuttgart by beating Greuther Fürth 3-0. The result certainly flattered Marco Rose’s side, who were far from their best. Erling Haaland and Donyell Malen both continued their fine goalscoring form to lead the Black and Yellows to victory.

Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to earn a 3-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach despite going down to ten men in the second half. The topsy turvy game saw Florian Neuhaus give Gladbach the lead, before Rafael Santos Borré equalised going into the break. The Eagles then took the lead through Jesper Lindström early in the second half. Ramy Bensebaini then made it 2-2, only for Daichi Kamada to score what proved to be the winner just one minute later.

Adi Hütter’s side have now lost each of their last four games, leaving the head coach in a very precarious position.

FC Köln heaped more misery on Florian Kohfeldt as they came from behind twice before beating VfL Wolfsburg 3-2. Wolfsburg took the lead twice through Lukas Nmecha and Wout Weghorst. But the Billy Goats managed to get back on level terms on both occasions, with Anthony Modeste and Mark Uth finding the back of the net. Modeste then completed Köln’s comeback in the 89th minute to seal a memorable win.

TSG Hoffenheim continued their fine run of form as they came from two goals down to rescue a point away to fellow top four contenders Bayer Leverkusen. Gerardo Seoane’s side looked to be cruising following a brace from Patrik Schick, but late goals from Angelo Stiller and Munas Dabbur helped Hoffenheim pull off an impressive comeback.

Mainz 05 moved up to sixth place in the Bundesliga standings following their 4-0 thrashing of Hertha Berlin. Jae-sung Lee, Alexander Hack, Silvan Widmer and Jean-Paul Boëtius were all on target for the 05ers.

SC Freiburg and Union Berlin played out a hard-fought goalless draw on Wednesday. While RB Leipzig were left frustrated once again, as they could only manage a 1-1 draw away to FC Augsburg. Daniel Caligiuri rescued a point for the Bavarians four minutes from time after André Silva’s first half opener.

Arminia Bielefeld claimed a much needed victory, as they beat VfL Bochum 2-0 courtesy of goals from Masaya Okugawa and Patrick Wimmer. Frank Kramer’s side are still 17th in the Bundesliga standings, four points adrift of the relegation play-offs spot.
