Sebastian Kehl: We have been making too many avoidable mistakes in recent weeks

Sebastian Kehl believes that a big reason for Borussia Dortmund’s poor run of form is that they have been making too many avoidable mistakes in recent weeks.
Borussia Dortmund’s disappointing December ended with a shock 3-2 defeat against a struggling Hertha Berlin side on Saturday evening. The defeat proved to be a very costly one for the Black and Yellows, as it meant that they will end the calendar year nine points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings.
Borussia Dortmund made a strong start to their game against Hertha, and went into the break with a 1-0 lead to show for their efforts. But they allowed the home side to find their way back into the game in the second half. And the Berliners obliged, as they scored three goals in 20 minutes to turn the game on its head.
Sebastian Kehl believes that Borussia Dortmund have been making too many avoidable mistakes in recent weeks, and those errors have proven to be very costly for them. In an interview with Kicker, the BVB head of players’ department said:
"“Overall, we’ve been making too many avoidable mistakes in recent weeks that are causing us to lose games, or at least not win them.”“We had our sights firmly set on finishing the year on a good note with 37 points, and up until the halftime break it looked like we would. We had a few scoring chances and should have been leading after 15 minutes. But then we gave the game away in a very short period of time in the second half, which is very disappointing.”"
With Borussia Dortmund’s charge for the Bundesliga title now in tatters, the morale is definitely low at the club going into the holiday period. But Kehl is already looking ahead to the new year, and wants the players to hit the ground running with a tough test coming up in their first Bundesliga game back.
"“We have dropped a lot of points in the last few games. We will need a few days to digest that. At the start of training, the boys must be fully focused and learn the lessons from these games, because in Frankfurt we will be challenged straight away.”"
Borussia Dortmund will go up against the in-form Eintracht Frankfurt when the Bundesliga gets back underway on January 08.
