As the Bundesliga takes a winter break, we take a look at how the Borussia Dortmund players fared during the first half of the season.

Borussia Dortmund’s first half of the season was hardly an ideal one. Their injury ravaged squad exited the UEFA Champions League at the group stage, and also ended the hinrunde nine points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings.

The first half of the season was a mixed bag for the BVB midfielders. While Jude Bellingham reached new heights with his exemplary performances in the middle of the park, the likes of Axel Witsel and Emre Can struggled despite all their experience. Here we take a look at how the Borussia Dortmund midfielders fared during the hinrunde.

Jude Bellingham (8/10)

Few Borussia Dortmund players had a better first half of the season than Jude Bellingham. The 18 year old cemented his place as one of the first names on the BVB team-sheet and showed why there is so much hype surrounding him with his performances on the pitch.

Bellingham ran the show for Borussia Dortmund from his number eight role. He caused opposition midfielders and defenders all sorts of problems, and was the most fouled player in the Bundesliga over the course of the hinrunde.

In addition to his aggressive and hard working playing style, the England international also added goals and more creativity to his arsenal. He ended the first half of the season with an impressive three goals and nine assists.

Bellingham has the potential to be one of the best players in the world. And if his performances over the first half of the season are anything to go by, he will get to that world class level sooner rather than later.
