Borussia Dortmund target Denis Zakaria’s contract expires at the end of the season. And an extension is out of the question, so Gladbach could look to sell him in the January transfer window.

Borussia Mönchengladbach received a big blow on Tuesday when Matthias Ginter revealed that he will not be extending his contract with the club. The former Borussia Dortmund defender will now leave Gladbach on a free transfer in the summer.

And it has now also been confirmed that Ginter’s teammate Denis Zakaria will turn down the chance to extend his contract with the Foals. The Swiss international’s contract will expire at the end of the season, and he is attracting the interest of the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, AS Roma, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

BILD claim that Borussia Mönchengladbach will now look to sell Zakaria in the January transfer window in order to get a transfer fee for him. With games set to be played behind closed doors after the winter break, Gladbach will want to ensure that they do not lose one of their top players on a free transfer.

It remains to be seen if Borussia Dortmund would be willing to spend the money it would cost to sign Zakaria in the January transfer window. The Black and Yellows see Zakaria as a potential replacement for Axel Witsel. So they will want to sell Witsel before making a move for the 25 year old.
